What are same day crowns?
Sometimes teeth break. Usually amongst the good folk of West Sussex this isn’t the result of a drunken fight or an argument with a cricket bat, it’s because the tooth has been filled for many years and so it has been weakened. Then, over the years the remaining part of the tooth develops a stress fracture, and finally you are eating your regular bowl of cornflakes or crusty sandwich and suddenly there is half your tooth in the mix, and you are wondering what went wrong and whether this is the end of smiling and eating as you knew it.
The good news is that we are here to help, and the even better news is that we can often solve those problems in one appointment with a same day crown. A crown (or cap) covers over the remaining tooth, sharing the load over the whole tooth area and restoring the bite and the appearance of the tooth which has broken down.
Who is a same day crown for?
Crowns are made for where the tooth has really broken down and need the strength of a full coverage to allow you to carry on using it in your bite or your smile.
How does a same day crown work?
The tooth is prepared under local anaesthetic and then scanned using a 3D scanner in the mouth. The crown is then designed and milled using a machine in the practice, and then glazed and fired in the furnace to make it look and feel like your other teeth. Once the crown has cooled, it is cemented in place. No impressions. No temporary crown. One visit. It’s really good.
